Club Athletico Paulistano
The Club Athletico Paulistano , often just called Paulistano , is a sports club from the Brazilian metropolis of São Paulo . The association was founded on December 29, 1900. The soccer team was one of the founders of the sport in Brazil and was the leading force nationally around 1920. After activities related to football were discontinued in 1930, basketball became the club's figurehead. With the sponsor name Paulistano / Amil he participates in the game operations of the national professional league.
In addition, CA Paulistano now offers sports such as tennis , swimming , volleyball , athletics and recreational football.
Soccer
Under the guidance of the Englishman Charles William Miller , the Paulista League , the first football league in Brazil, was founded a year later together with São Paulo Athletic Club , SC Internacional , Mackenzie College and SC Germânia . Participation in the game operation was reserved for members from the top layer of the city.
After CA Paulistano had become runner-up in each of the first three years, the championship was first achieved in 1905. In the following years, too, they were among the leading teams, becoming champions again in 1908 and winning four runners-up championships.
After a third league title was won in 1913, CA Paulistano left the Paulista League in 1914 and switched to APEA , a generally accessible league. From 1916 to 1919 four titles were celebrated there in a row, with Arthur Friedenreich , who was the top scorer in the league six times during his time at the club , played a major role . In that era Paulistano also won the Taça Ioduran , the cup for the winner of a game between the state champions of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, in 1918 and 1920 the Copa dos Campeões Estaduais , the cup of state champions, in which the title holder of Rio Grande do Sul participated. In both cases Paulistano defeated Fluminense FC from Rio in the decisive game.
In 1925 CA Paulistano refused to accept professional status. The club led the way in founding the Liga de Amadores de Futebol , an amateur league. After the collapse of the league in 1930, the club lost its importance. Some members split off and were instrumental in founding the São Paulo FC , which together with the "Sport Club Corinthians Paulista" (better known in German-speaking countries as Corinthians São Paulo ) and Palestra Italia became one of the city's leading clubs.
