CSM Paşcani is a Romanian football club from Paşcani , Iaşi County . He has played in League III since 1990 . The club belonged to the second Romanian football league for a total of 25 years and reached the quarter-finals of the Romanian Cup in the 1987/88 season .

history

CSM Paşcani was founded in 1921 as CFR Paşcani . At that time, CFR could not qualify for the final round of the Romanian football championship in the Iasi region . For the first time the club played in the season 1934/35 nationally in the newly formed Divizia B . He had previously changed his name to Unirea CFR Paşcani . In the following years, the repeated qualification for the second division failed. In Divizia C, which was only sporadic at the time , Unirea CFR was part of the game, but was only able to place itself at the bottom of the table.

As an association of the Romanian railway company Căile Ferate Române , the club changed its name to Locomotiva Paşcani in the early 1950s . The season 1956 he finished in second place of his season of Divizia C behind Recolta Fălticeni and missed the return to Divizia B by one point. This was made up for two years later after the club went back to its original name CFR Paşcani in 1958 . The Divizia B belonged to CFR for ten years without interruption and mostly fought to stay in class. The best result of the 1960s was a fourth place in the 1962/63 season .

After relegation in 1969, CFR returned to Divizia B a year later. As in previous years, the focus was on the fight against relegation. After eight years, he was relegated again. This time the immediate return did not succeed. As the runner-up of his season behind CS Botoșani , the club stayed in Divizia C. After just missed promotion in the 1981/82 season, they returned in 1984. The club was able to place itself in the midfield of Divizia B several times. The greatest success of that time came in the Romanian Cup in the season 1987/88 . After victories against Flacăra Moreni and FC Olt Scorniceşti , CFR moved into the quarter-finals, but lost there against AS Victoria Bucharest .

After relegation in 1990, CFR initially played for promotion and was even able to complete the 1991/92 season as the first of its season. Due to a league reform, however, the club was denied promotion. The following years were changeable. With the season 2000/01 CFR was able to leave the relegation battle behind and missed the rise behind Petrolul Moineşti just as nearly as five years later behind Politehnica II Iaşi . In 2009 the club changed its name to CSM Paşcani and has been playing in Liga III for 21 years .
