Paşcani [ ˈpaʃkanʲ ] is a city in Romania and is located in Iași County in the Moldova region .
Population and location
Paşcani is the second largest city in Iaşi County and is located in a valley of the Siret River about 76 kilometers west of the district capital Iaşi . In 2003 it had about 42,800 inhabitants. Paşcani is a railway junction with a marshalling yard and repair shop .
history
Today's city was first mentioned in a document in 1453. As a village of laborers , it was named after a boyar Oana Pasca .
Due to its good location on the main ford over the Siret, Paşcani became one of the most important cities in the Vltava in the mid-19th century. Up to 21 trade fairs were held each year. The Chernowitz-Roman railway line , built in 1869, favored the development of the city. In 1896 a workers' association called the CFR Union Club was formed. The railway workers supported the peasant uprising of 1907 and participated in the general strike of the railway workers in 1933. After Paşcani was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War , it became an industrial center and transformed into a modern city.
