CHU is the callsign of a Canadian time signal transmitter . The station is operated by the National Research Council of Canada .
It sends time signals on the shortwave frequencies 3.330 MHz , 7.850 MHz and 14.670 MHz. Since January 1, 2009 at 00:00 UTC , the frequency 7.850 MHz has been used instead of 7.335 MHz. Frequent interference from broadcasters was given as the reason for the frequency change.
The time signals are also broadcast via telephone announcements , radio ( Radio Canada ) and the Internet ( Network Time Protocol ).
