BPM is the callsign of the shortwave transmitter of the national time signal service of the People's Republic of China . The transmitter is located in Lintong (a district of Xi'an ) in Shaanxi Province . It is operated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences .
It sends time signals on the following shortwave frequencies : 2.5 MHz , 5 MHz, 10 MHz and 15 MHz. The advantage of short waves is the good reflection on ionospheric layers, which gives the time signal a large, albeit changing range.
