Collagen type XXVII, alpha 1 is a collagen that the gene COL27A1 encoded is. It forms homotrimers , which in turn form type XXVII collagen fibrils .

properties

Collagen type XXVII, alpha 1 is located in the basement membrane of the keratinocytes in hemidesmosomes type I, which essentially functions as an adhesion molecule and surface receptor in multilayered epithelia .

The accumulation of collagen type XVII, alpha 1 in melanocytic tumors is associated with malignant transformation . Thus it is a potential biomarker for malignancy and is also a target for antibody-induced apoptosis of melanomas .

Collagen XVII is mostly in the tissue in the eye and the ear expressed and participates in the development of the skeleton. It forms structural elements in the extracellular matrix of the tissue, skin and tendon. Type XXVII, alpha 1 collagen plays an important role in cartilage calcification and osteogenesis . By the interaction of human chondrocytes - cell line C28 / I2 GDF6 is gene expression increased from COL26A1. The transcription factor SOX9 is responsible for the transcriptional activation of COL27A1.
