CPLAY is a German esports organization . Since it was founded in 2007, the Hamburg club has gained international fame, particularly in the computer games Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, League of Legends, ShootMania and World of Tanks.

In October 2016, the management decided to pause the association's activities. After a two-year break, CPLAY is currently providing teams in the games Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, FIFA and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.

history

CPLAY was founded in 2007 under the name Coreplay. Within the German e-sports scene, the Hamburgers managed to cause a stir early on with strong performances in the games Counter-Strike and Call of Duty. From 2010 the Hanseatic League was a regular participant in the ESL Pro Series.

Consistent scouting of talent catapulted CPLAY onto the international stage in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in 2012. At that time, among others, in the team: Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth . After an outstanding performance at the NorthCon Gaming Festival, CPLAY established itself as a serious newcomer " The Borussia Dortmund of the European CS: GO scene" . After switching from Xyp9x to fnatic , the CS: GO team was reorganized. In 2015, by winning the ESL Major League and the Hitbox Arena Invitational, the company made another leap to the top in Europe. After further top placements in the Fragbite Masters and the CEVO, the newly discovered top performers Danny “Berry” Krüger switched to SK Gaming and Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander to Copenhagen Wolves . The Counter-Strike era should end here for the time being.

Nationally, CPLAY has made headlines since 2012, especially in League of Legends. In 2013 the team with Maurice “Amazing” Stückenscheider became German runner-up and won the Dr. Pepper Allstar Tournament at Gamescom .

In 2014, CPLAY was the only German team to take part in the European Championships (WGL Europe Finals) in the tactical shooter World of Tanks. The popular figures around Dominik “Ruster” Waffler and Matthias “Hacki” Hackenberg finished the tournament with a confident third place.

Since 2007 CPLAY has been trying to strengthen e-sports away from the popular stages. In the alternative shooter from Ubisoft's subsidiary Nadeo , the line-up around Belgian Dimmy “Dreammyw0w” Snels was not only among the world's top competitors, CPLAY developed its own tournament platform together with the publisher. Together with the best commentators in Europe, the CPLAY Premier Series: ShootMania increased the international reach of the game many times over.
