Fnatic is an esports organization founded in 2004 and run by Samuel "zr0" Mathews. The place of foundation is in Australia, the administration and its own shop are in London. Four full-time employees work there.

history

Sander "Vo0" Kaasjager , player of the computer game Painkiller , helped Fnatic to break through with his good results on the 2005 CPL World Tour . After his preliminary retirement in early 2006, the Counter-Strike department became an important service provider for the clan . In 2006, Patrik Lindberg's team won several hundred thousand dollars in prize money. Fnatic was a member of the G7 Teams , a former association of the most successful clans in the world. It was honored with the eSports Award as eSports Team of the Year in 2006 and 2009 .

In League of Legends , fnatic won the first world championship ( Riot League of Legends World Championship ) at DreamHack Summer 2011 . After a somewhat less successful year in 2012, the team won both half seasons (splits) of the newly introduced Professional League Championship Series (LCS) in 2013 and reached the semi-finals of the World Cup. The team also managed to reach the semi-finals in 2015. At the League of Legends World Championship 2018 ("Worlds"), Fnatic made it into the final for the first time since the first Worlds in 2011 . There, however, they lost 3 to 0 to the Chinese esports team Invictus Gaming .

After that, Fnatic was active in other disciplines such as Dota 2 and Heroes of the Storm , in addition to the successful Counter-Strike and League of Legends teams . Since 2007 the fnatic Academy has also been a kind of amateur department, which consists of teams in less popular esports disciplines and gives them the opportunity to develop in a professional environment.

On August 23, 2015, fnatic was able to win two big tournaments in one day with victories at the ESL One Cologne 2015 in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and at the summer playoffs of the League of Legends Championship Series .

On August 15, 2016 Robin "flusha" Rönnquist, Jesper "JW" Wecksell and Freddy "KRiMZ" Johansson moved to Godsent , while Simon "twist" Eriksson and Jonas "Lekr0" Eliasson from Godsent went to fnatic. Since these changes did not bring both teams any major success, both organizations agreed on February 4, 2017 a new player swap, which reversed the changes of the previous year.

At the end of 2018, the organization announced that it would become part of the new LEC franchise formed from the EU LCS with its League of Legends team . In addition to Fnatic, G2 eSports , FC Schalke 04 and SK Gaming are competing here to win the League of Legends European Championship .

In September 2019, the organization was fined for tax offenses.

After a long dry spell in terms of great success, the team is now in second place in the CS: GO world rankings after a successful year-end 2019.
