NGL ONE

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NGL ONE (short NGL ) was an E-Sport - League , which was specifically aimed at professional e-sports. The international field of participants was limited to ten teams. In the first season, which started on April 15, 2006, the computer games Counter-Strike and Warcraft III were played. Since the 2008 season, however, the NGL has not used Counter-Strike. The reason given by project manager Michael Haenisch was that the response was low compared to Warcraft III and that the ongoing killer game debate made marketing the competition difficult.

The main competitor of the NGL was the ESL WC3L Series . However, the game systems of the two leagues differ significantly: In the WC3L, five individual matches took place between the five seeded players of a team, which generate the overall result. The NGL used a mode known as the King of the Hill with four players per team. A starting player was chosen. These two competed against each other. The winner of this duel scored a point for his team, the loser was exchanged for another player. This new player was then allowed to decide on which card the next game - against the winner of the previous match - took place. An additional restriction was that each team could only choose a card once. If all four players on a team were defeated, they'd lost the game.

It was also possible to “revive” a defeated player once a season. This then took the place of one of the other three seeded players.

Since the second season of the NGL ONE there has been a subordinate second division in the Warcraft III area, the NGL TWO . The same set of rules applied to them as to the “premier class”. The two best-placed teams from the NGL TWO were promoted to the NGL ONE, the third-placed team had to compete with the eight-placed team from the NGL ONE in a relegation game.

After six seasons, the concept was also discontinued for Warcraft 3 . The last season in this discipline was not played in teams.

The NGL ONE operated under the same name as the Netzstatt Gaming League , another former German LAN- E sports league. Freaks 4U GmbH was behind both projects, but there was no direct connection.
