The ESL One Cologne 2014 was a tournament for the online tactical shooter computer game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive , or CS: GO for short, which took place as part of gamescom 2014 . The winners were the ninjas in pajamas .

Seven quarter-finalists of EMS One Katowice 2014 were invited to participate:

Team line-ups
The following table shows the line-ups with which the teams competed.
Maps
During the tournament, the teams have seven maps to choose from, which can be played. In the best-of-one mode, both teams can delete two maps each. From the remaining three maps, the map that is ultimately played is selected at random. In the best-of-three mode, both teams will initially delete one map each. Then each side chooses a map, both of which are played in the first two matches. A possible decision map is chosen at random from among the three remaining maps.

Preliminary round
The preliminary round matches were played within the groups in double elimination. The winner in the winning round moved into the quarter-finals as first in the group. The winner of the losing round as second in the group. In each group, the team on seeding list 1 was the first to play against the team on seeding list 4 and the team on seeding list 2 against the team on seeding list 3.
Group A
In the first game of the tournament, the ninjas in pajamas were able to prevail against the Indians from MTS GameGod Wolf with 16: 7 on de_dust2 despite defeat in a pistol round. HellRaisers showed a disappointing performance against the safe playing French from Epsilon eSports , who prevailed on de_inferno with 16: 1. Epsilon eSports won the game for group victory. Fabien “kioShiMa” Fiey and Gordon “Sf” Giry performed particularly well at de_cobblestone.

In the match of the two losers, the HellRaisers were able to beat MTS GameGod Wolf 16: 4 on de_mirage after starting difficulties . Against ninjas in pajamas , the team was eliminated in an exciting game on de_overpass with an 11:16 defeat.

Group B
Team LDLC prevailed in the game against London Conspiracy on de_nuke after a safe CT half with 16: 2. In the match between Natus Vincere and Copenhagen Wolves , which took place shortly afterwards , the Ukrainians were able to win 16: 6 on de_inferno thanks to a strong team performance. In the game of the two winners, Team LDLC prevailed in an even game on de_inferno against Natus Vincere with 16:12.

On de_cache, the Copenhagen Wolves beat London Conspiracy 16: 5 in the group B losers match . In the game for second place in the group, Natus Vincere prevailed in overtime on de_dust2.

Group C
In Group C, the winner of EMS One Katowice 2014 Virtus.pro won the first game against dAT team 16: 7 on de_overpass. With the same result, fnatic beat the American team iBUYPOWER on de_cobblestone. The game of the two winners was decided by fnatic on de_overpass with 19:16.

The dAT team was unable to counter iBUYPOWER on de_cobblestone. The Americans moved into the game for second place in the group with 16: 6. There they clearly lost against Virtus.pro on de_cache with 2:16.

Group D
In Group D, Team Dignitas beat Vox Eminor 16: 9 on de_dust2. These meet in the game for group victory against Cloud 9 . The Americans started a terrific race to catch up against Titan eSports . After the team around shot caller Kory "SEMPHIS" Friesen saved themselves on de_dust2 after a 4:11 deficit on the terrorist side in extra time. Sniper specialist Sean "seangares" Gares shone there. In the second extension, Cloud 9 could decide the game. The winning game on de_mirage was not decided until the 30th round. The Americans moved into the final round as group winners with a 16:14 against Team Dignitas.
