The CRH5 is a high-speed electric train in the People's Republic of China . CRH is short for China Railway High-speed .
The CRH5 is a multiple unit of the Pendolino family of the Alstom Group, but unlike other Pendolino versions, it does not have tilting technology.
The trains, built in Savigliano, Italy , were brought to the port of Genoa and shipped there to China. Three of the 60 trains were transferred in an assembled form, 57 trains in individual parts, which were then assembled in China.
The trains connect the cities of Shijiazhuang and Taiyuan in the provinces of Hebei and Shanxi , around 600 kilometers southwest of Beijing , on a 189-kilometer route . They travel at a top speed of 250 km / h. Construction work on the route was completed at the end of 2008. Alstom received an order worth around 42 million euros for the electrification.
