China Railway high-speed CRH380A shortly CRH380A (also "Harmony Express" ; German "Harmony Express" ) is a new generation of high-speed trains in the program of the China Railway High-speed (CRH). It is the first high-speed train developed entirely in China by CSR Sifang . The CRH380A is designed for a scheduled continuous speed of 350 km / h. However, it is able to achieve a short-term top speed of 380 km / h.

development

Development began in the first quarter of 2008, during the testing phase of the CRH2-300 (later CRH2C). The CSR carried out over 1000 technical test series on these trains, which dealt with 17 different aspects such as dynamic power output, the construction of the pantograph , aerodynamics or traction . The results of these experiments were directly incorporated into the design of the CRH380A.

In September 2009, the Chinese Ministry of Railways decided to order 100 trains of 16 cars each and 40 trains of 8 cars each from the Chinese manufacturer CSR Sifang Locomotive & Rolling Stock from Qingdao . The value of the order was 45 billion RMB (around 5.1 billion EUR).

Under the original project name CRH2-350 , the CSR design office dealt with four areas of responsibility: the schematic, the technology, the construction and the practical testing of the vehicles . More than 20 draft designs were compared. On April 12, 2010, the final flow-optimized design was presented to the public at a press conference in the Sifang locomotive factory. In May 2010 a scale model of it was exhibited on the China Railway Pavilion in the Shanghai World Expo Park (IRJ July p5).

Test phase

The prototype left the Sifang plant in April 2010. The eight-car train was tested on April 26, 2010 on the circuit of the China Academy of Railway Sciences. The first test drives on the Zhengzhou – Xi'an high-speed line began on June 7, 2010.

The first series production copy of the train, the CRH 380A -6001, was delivered in September 2010. In regular passenger traffic , the train was put into daily service on a trial basis from September 28, 2010. This test phase took place on the approximately 170 km long high-speed line between Shanghai and Hangzhou.

World record runs

During a test drive on the route between Shanghai and Hangzhou , an eight-car train (CRH380A) set a new world record for series-production multiple units at 416.6 km / h .

On December 3, 2010, a 16-car train (CRH380AL) reached the speed record for series vehicles that is still valid today at 486.1 km / h.

An experimental variant of the train is said to have set a world record for rail vehicles in summer 2012 with 604 km / h.

commitment

The CRH380A has been in test passenger service since September 30, 2010 on the approximately 280 km long Shanghai – Nanjing route. The CRH380A has been in use on the Shanghai – Hangzhou and Shanghai – Nanjing routes as planned since October 26, 2010.

On June 30, 2011, the entire 1318 km long Beijing – Shanghai high-speed line went into operation, which the train travels in just under five and a half hours with five stops. It was officially opened on July 14, 2011.

Numbering scheme

  • CRH380A: CRH 380A -6001 ~ CRH 380A -6040.
  • CRH380AL: CRH 380A -6041L ~ CRH 380A -6140L.
