CSU Galați was a Romanian football club from Galați . Between 1961 to 1982, he played a total of seventeen years in the second highest Romanian football league, the Divizia B . The greatest success was participation in the 1976/77 European Cup Winners' Cup .
history
In 1953 the club was founded as Știința Galați and took part in Divizia B for the first time in 1961/62 . After four years, the club handed its league place to Oțelul Galați . In 1967 the name was changed to Politehnica Galați . In the following season they took over the league place in Divizia B from Siderurgistul Galați , which then dissolved.
The best league result in Divizia B was achieved in 1967/68 and 1968/69 with two 2nd places, with the team in 1967/68 failing in the play-offs for promotion to Divizia A.
In 1972 the club changed its name to CSU Galați and achieved its greatest success after four years. He qualified as a cup finalist in 1975/76 for the European Cup Winners' Cup 1975/76 , since Steaua Bucharest also won the championship that year . In the European Cup, however, the team was eliminated in the first round against Boavista Porto after two defeats (2: 3 and 0: 2).
In 1982 CSU merged with local rivals FCM Galați. The new association was named Dunărea CSU Galați .
In the summer of 2017, the club was re-established as CSU Dunărea de Jos Galați . After two seasons they rose to League III . In 2020, CSU withdrew from League III during the winter break and was dissolved.
