Carl Walter Loth , known as CW Loth (born September 20, 1954 in Feudingen ) is a German sculptor . He lives and works in Freiburg im Breisgau .

Life

From 1979 to 1983 Loth studied sculpture at the Ottersberg Art College . Since 1985 the sculptor has shown his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. In 1989 he moved into his studio in the Freiburg E-Werk (Hallen für Kunst).

When the Museum for Sepulchral Culture was opened in Kassel in 1992 , the collection included two works by Loth on the subject of death. They will be shown during the opening with the then Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker .

In 1994 CW Loth received the scholarship from the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation, and in 1996 from the Götz & Moriz company, Freiburg. In 1998 the visual artist was the winner of the art competition of the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese.

Works

The sculpture "Große OffenBurg" by CW Loth on the roundabout in front of the Offenburg University. The work is made of concrete.

His technique of creating sculptures with moving parts from a single piece of wood is unique. These parts remain a unit, as they are not cut out and put back together, but can be folded out or made movable by carefully planned cuts. Numerous works by Loth are in public ownership (28 pieces), many of which are freely accessible outside.

Loth's large sculpture "Große OffenBurg" from 2007 has also been included in the logo of the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences.

In addition to the sculptures, Loth creates graphics and sketches on paper and canvas.
