action

Pyke visits his in custody seated brother Reese. He reports on his act, a robbery on a dog racing track, which ultimately failed and in which his accomplice was killed. On his escape through Chicago , Reese threw the booty tucked in a suitcase off a bridge. The suitcase landed on the hood of a conspicuous vehicle that happened to pass under the bridge. Reese now asks Pyke to use this car to locate the suitcase.

When Sam, the driver of the car, opens the suitcase, he finds $ 600,000 in it. While his wife Leslie is initially hesitant about what to do with the find, Sam immediately knows what he wants to do with the new wealth and can convince her to keep the money, even as he and Leslie are deeply in debt. So they first settle their bank debts, then buy a luxurious car and redecorate their house.

After a few days, Pyke finally shows up with the two of them and quietly but with some emphasis makes it clear that the suitcase belongs to him and calculates that there is a considerable gap between the remaining money and what the couple has spent so far. He proves to be a meticulously accurate mental arithmetic genius with an incredibly good memory for numbers: In the next few days he will help collect "74,316 dollars and 47 cents" that have been spent so far. In order not to lose sight of Sam and Leslie, the meat eater, who practices yoga every evening, has stayed with the vegetarian couple.

After Pyke helped them to add the money deposits that were spread across the city back to the basic stock in the suitcase, he went to their house bank with them to cover the outstanding amount with a loan. It turns out that Pyke is also very knowledgeable in official financial transactions and also knows how to act skilfully as a negotiator, because his knowledge and despite Sam's unemployment enable him to help the reluctant couple to obtain the small credit Pyke is aiming for .

In order to raise a still missing sum, Pyke forces Sam and Leslie alternately to raid drinking halls and gas stations with guns at hand, but empty, while he waits in the car to keep the other spouse at bay with another gun. He had given both of them five days to raise the money. When “5,988 dollars and 32 cents” are missing on the fourth day, Sam suggests robbing a bank. In this coup he steals the cartridges from a security guard. Sam throws the money they stole from their bank robbery out of the window and settles his debts with Pyke. Due to an argument, a scuffle occurs between the men in the moving car, in the course of which Sam shoots Pyke with his now loaded gun.

Sam and Leslie bribe an employee of a junkyard to dispose of the car and the body in a press. They then pay the victims of their raids with Reese's loot. At the end it is revealed that the police are still in the dark about the perpetrators. In the final scene you can see Reese being released from prison.

“There is nothing to complain about about the performance of the actors and the straightforward direction, but the bottom line is that 'Cash' would have been better positioned to face a stronger position: Does it want to be a gangster film or a satire? Comedy or thriller? Film noir or parable? Determination would have been necessary here, which is now missing, even if the film is decently entertaining overall. "

“An average thriller that is not entirely convincing. The actually original story unfortunately falls off significantly in the second half. Nice pastime for a rainy afternoon. "
