Caaguazú is a city in Paraguay with about 130,000 inhabitants in the department of the same name and a mountain range at an altitude of 500 m, on Ruta 7 , 185 km east of Asunción . It is nicknamed the capital of wood because the timber industry was the most important branch of business in the past. Due to uncontrolled deforestation, the population is now active in agriculture and livestock, as well as in trade and the service sector.
The city was founded in 1845 by 11 Guaraní families who settled there near a water source.
After the opening of the national road Ruta 13 in March 2015 from Caaguazú to Vaquería , economic growth has taken place. National companies, banks and cooperatives opened branches in the city, which led to a further increase in the population.
On July 31, 2018, the last section from Vaquería to the national road Ruta 10 , which leads to the state of Mato Grosso in Brazil , was officially opened . This significantly reduces the cost of freight transport in the region, which further benefits the city's economic development.
