The Cabane de Tracuit is an alpine refuge in the Valais Alps . It is located southeast of Les Diablons on the western edge of the Turtmann glacier at an altitude of 3256  m above sea level. M. in the Swiss canton of Valais . The hut is owned by the Aigle- based Chaussy section of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC).

history

The original hut was built in 1929. Expansions took place in 1938, 1968 and 1981.

In 2012–2013, a new hut was built next to the existing one and opened in June 2013. The old hut has meanwhile been torn down. Only its foundation walls are still preserved and serve as a sun terrace.

The new hut offers 116 beds, spread over several dormitories and a few four-bed rooms.

Ascent

The shortest ascent (normal route) to the hut begins in Zinal in the rear Val d'Anniviers and takes about 4.5 hours, ascent 1580 meters in altitude, difficulty level T4.

Mountaineering

The Cabane de Tracuit is the starting point for an ascent of Bishorn ( 4153  m above sea level ), Weisshorn ( 4505  m ) and Les Diablons ( 3609  m ).
