Cabernet Cortis is a fungus- resistant red wine variety bred in 1982 that was crossed by Norbert Becker from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Solaris varieties at the Freiburg State Wine Institute . Cabernet Cortis is officially marked with the breeding line FR 437-82 r. The variety has plant variety protection , the entry in the variety list has been requested.
Small stocks are known in Switzerland . (2.14 hectares, as of 2007, source: Office fédéral de l'agriculture OFAG) In Germany, cultivation is currently still generally regulated on trial areas. In the meantime, however, Cabernet Cortis is also occasionally planted unsupervised. For example, a 0.02 hectare (200 square meter) vineyard registered with the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Agriculture is located below the Reichsburg Cochem .
Properties of the vine
The leaves are medium-sized, three- to five-lobed and strong green. The grapes are elongated, cylindrical. Budding, flowering and the start of ripening occur about a week earlier than with Pinot Noir. The frost resistance is considered good. The variety requires slightly less good locations like the Pinot Noir .
Cabernet Cortis is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
Properties of the wine
The wines are strong, rich in color and have clear tannins . They have a typical Cabernet Sauvignon character, usually with an even more pronounced cassis smell and taste. In the young wine stage, the wines show many spicy notes. Either these notes are well integrated with the maturity of the wines or the expansion is carried out with oxygen and wood.
