Caecilie Seler-Sachs and Eduard Seler

Caecilie Susanna Seler-Sachs (born June 1, 1855 in Berlin , † January 4, 1935 in Berlin-Steglitz ) was a German ethnologist , photographer and author . Since 1884 she was married to the old American and old Mexicanist Eduard Seler (1849–1922), whom she accompanied on six research trips to Central America (especially Mexico ).

Caecilie Seler-Sachs documented and photographed a large part of Eduard Seler's research. In addition, she conducted her own research, on which she published independently. Since women could not study or obtain any scientific degrees, they only achieved recognized research results through self-study and exchange with scientists. Caecilie Seler-Sachs was politically and socially active. She was a member of the commission of the Photography School of the Lette Association and an honorary member of the club founded by Marie Kundt for the former students of the Photography School .

The grave of Caecilie Seler-Sachs and Eduard Seler is located in the Steglitz cemetery in Berlin-Steglitz , until 2014 it was an honorary grave of the city of Berlin .
