The Caerketton Hill is a hill in the Pentland Hills . The 478 m high elevation is located at the northeast end of the approximately 25 km long range of hills on the border between the Scottish Council Areas Edinburgh and Midlothian . The closest settlements are Currie, five kilometers to the west, and Loanhead, four kilometers to the east . The southern districts of Edinburgh begin about two kilometers north. The closest hills are Allermuir Hill to the west and Woodhouselee Hill to the south. The Boghall Burn rises on the south flank and finally drains into the Firth of Forth via North Esk and Esk .
The summit is marked by a cairn measuring around 16 meters in diameter and 1.5 meters high . It has been disturbed and is therefore no longer in its original state. The Cairn is protected as a Scheduled Monument .
Surroundings
A flint arrowhead was discovered on the western flank of Caerketton Hills in 1970 . The exhibit is in the collection of the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland , which is affiliated with the Royal Museum .
The remains of a hill fort can be found on a rocky elevation almost ten meters high on the eastern flank . The facility, which was in a position that was easy to defend, was enclosed by at least one wall. There was a wall on the west side. The fort is classified as a Scheduled Monument.
A dry ski run was installed on the north flank of the Caerketton Hills.
