The Woodhouselee Hill is a hill in the Pentland Hills . The 383 m high elevation is located on the eastern flank at the north end of the approximately 25 km long range of hills in the Scottish Council Area Midlothian . The closest settlements are around four kilometers away, Penicuik in the south, Roslin in the southeast, Loanhead in the east and the southern districts of Edinburgh in the north. Upstream to the east is the hamlet Woodhouselee , which was a prisoner of war camp during the Second World War . The neighboring hills are Castlelaw Hill in the southwest, Allermuir Hill in the northwest and Caerketton Hill in the north. The summit and flanks of the Woodhouselee Hills are partially wooded.
Surroundings
The Boghall Burn flows along the north flank and eventually drains into the Firth of Forth via North Esk and Esk . An unspecified ancient ax made of dark sandstone was found nearby in 1923 and is now in the collection of the Royal Museum of Scotland . The summit of the Woodhouselee Hills was cultivated until around the 1970s. Various traces along the slopes bear witness to agricultural use in the past centuries. There are abandoned quarries on both the western and eastern flanks.
