The 493 m high elevation is at the northern end of the approximately 25 km long range of hills on the border between the Scottish Council Areas Edinburgh and Midlothian . The closest settlements are Currie , located around five kilometers to the west, and Loanhead , located to the east . The southern districts of Edinburgh begin about three kilometers north. The closest hills are Capelaw Hill in the southwest, Caerketton Hill in the east and Castlelaw Hill in the south.
The summit marks a cairn about one meter in diameter and half a meter high , which is probably not historical.
