The Cains River is an approximately 110 km long right tributary of the Southwest Miramichi River in the Canadian province of New Brunswick .

River course

The Cains River rises 30 km north-northeast of Fredericton at an altitude of 155  m . It flows in a predominantly north-easterly direction and only turns towards north-north-west for the last 10 kilometers. The Cains River eventually flows into the Southwest Miramichi River, 8.5 km south-southeast of Blackville . The course of the river is located in northeast York County and south Northumberland County . The 1399 km² catchment area of the Cains River is mainly forested.

Fish fauna

The Atlantic salmon is found in the river. The river is popular for fishing.
