Beaches and bays in Mallorca

Caló des Serral is a small bay with a sandy beach on the east coast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located in the southeast of the municipality of Manacor between the towns of Cales de Mallorca and S'Estany d'en Mas .

Location and description

View towards the sea

The Caló des Serral is located away from the nearest tourist settlements Cales de Mallorca, three kilometers to the south, and S'Estany d'en Mas, three kilometers northeast, in the nature reserve Cales Verges de Manacor (type ANEI - Àrea natural d'especial interès) . The word “Caló” ( Castilian equivalent “Caleta” ) means, like “Cala” in Catalan, “small bay”, whereby the dimensions of a caló are generally smaller than those of a cala , meaning a small cala . The Caló des Serral is a sea inlet between the nearby Cala Sequer in the north and the southern Cala Magraner .

The beach of Caló des Serral, made of fine, light sand, is only about six meters long on the shore and flanked by low rocks that rise to the neighboring bays to a cliff coast . In the rear area of the up to twelve meter wide sand surface, rubble was deposited by rainwater flowing into the sea . On both sides of the slow increase in area towards the west, only shrubs and low trees such as rosemary and wild olive tree grow . The footpath that runs there in the direction of the Son Josep de Baix (also Son Josep Nou ) estate leads along a fence that surrounds a manorial property north of the Caló des Serral . Between this and Son Josep de Baix , the path crosses a pine forest on the Sa Marina Gran area .

Access

From the road MA-4014 between Porto Cristo and Portocolom branches off seven kilometers behind Porto Cristo (kilometer stone 11), about 650 meters after the right-hand junction of the road MA-4015 to Manacor, a drivable dirt road branches off to the left. This ends after 1200 meters at the Son Josep Nou buildings on the Son Josep de Baix estate . After crossing a gate, a dirt path leads down to the beach of the Caló des Serral after about 1300 meters .
