Calapan (officially: City of Calapan ; Filipino : Lungsod ng Calapan ) is the capital of the Oriental Mindoro Province . Calapan was raised from a municipality ( Municipality ) to a city ( Component City ) on March 21, 1998 .

The community is located at the eastern entrance to Isla Verde Strait , which is considered a hot spot of marine biodiversity in the Philippines and worldwide.

The Divine Word College of Calapan is located in Calapan City .
