Caleb Hunter Plant (born July 8, 1992 in Ashland City , Tennessee , USA ) is an American professional boxer and former kickboxer . He has been the IBF super middleweight world champion since January 2019 .
He was first trained by his father, Richie Plant . His current trainer is Justin Gamber . It is managed by Al Haymon .
Amateur career
Kickboxing
Plant started martial arts at the age of twelve. As the following amateur kickboxer in full contact, he became the US middleweight champion of the IKF in May 2009 and the IKF super middleweight champion in October 2009 with a final victory against the Englishman Rob Burbridge. In 2007 he was light middleweight and 2010 middleweight, each IKF World Classic Champion.
Boxing
In 2010 he started at the US boxing championships for the first time and immediately reached fourth place in the light heavyweight division. In 2011 he won the National Golden Gloves in this weight class with wins against Sean Daniels, Craig Duncan, Corey Richards and Jerry Odom. In the national Olympic qualification in 2011, he could not qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London with a win against Sean Bettencourt, as well as defeats against Jeffrey Spencer and Siju Shabazz, but remained part of the reserve selection.
Professional career
In May 2014 he signed a professional contract with Premier Boxing Champions from Al Hayman and is trained by Justin Gamber and his father Richard. He won his debut on May 10, 2014 in Los Angeles and remained undefeated in 16 other fights until 2019, with only two opponents showing a negative match record, more defeats than wins. He defeated, among others, Tyrone Brunson , the US champion Andrew Hernandez and the world championship challenger Rogelio Medina.
On January 13, 2019, he defeated the IBF World Champion Jose Uzcategui unanimously on points and also had his opponent on the ground twice. He won his first title defense on July 20, 2019 by TKO in the third round against the previously undefeated Mike Lee (balance: 21-0).
On February 15, 2020, he defeated the German Vincent Feigenbutz (31-2) by TKO in the tenth round in his next title defense .
Private
In 2017 he lost his daughter to an infection, which had developed into life-threatening pneumonia - in 2019 again his mother, who pulled a knife at a police officer and was then shot.
Caleb Plant is married to the athlete Jordan Hardy.
