The Caleta Thornton ( Spanish ; in Argentina Caleta Mercado ) is a bay on the northwest coast of the Trinity Peninsula at the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 8 km southwest of Siffrey Point .
Chilean scientists named her after Lieutenant George Thornton M., hydrograph on the Yelcho on the 25th Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1970–1971). The background of the Argentine naming is not known.
