In the United States , the single was released on May 23. April 2002. It is the theme song for the US television series OC, California .

California is about driving along US Highway 101 to California . Roman Coppola , cousin of songwriter Jason Schwartzman , shot the music video.

The success of the series The OC and the song became known and was in a Simpsons episode than parody played. However, the song can also be heard in other films or television series such as Fastlane or The Enron Bankruptcy . It is also on the soundtrack to Nix as Orange County included.
