course
The road begins in Morro Bay on Highway 1 and continues northeast to Atascadero , where US Highway 101 intersects. At Shandon it meets State Route 46 and runs together with it for a few kilometers. On the western edge of California's long valley, the State Route first crosses California State Route 33 and, east of it, Interstate 5 . From here the road takes a more northerly direction and runs through agricultural landscape towards State Route 198 , which it crosses at Lemoore . From here on, the State Route consists of two separate lanes, each with two lanes, and heads north to Fresno, about 50 km away . There it is connected to State Route 99 and State Route 180 via a freeway intersection . In urban areas, the highway usually has three or more lanes in each direction. About after crossing the San Joaquin River north of Fresno, the lanes will merge again and the road will lead north with a total of two lanes. California State Route 145 joins approximately 11 km north from the west , which ends on Highway 41. The highway now takes a more north-westerly direction and leads through the hilly foothills of the Sierra Nevada towards Oakhurst , where Highway 49 joins from the west . From there, the road leads through conifer forests with often winding sections towards the south entrance of Yosemite National Park, where it officially ends.
