Calistrat Cuțov
Calistrat Cuțov (born October 10, 1948 in Brăila ) is a former Romanian boxer . Cuțov was bronze medalist at the 1968 Olympic Games and the 1977 European Championships , silver medalist at the 1971 European Championships and European Champion in 1969 .
Career
Cuțov comes from a Lipowan family, a Russian-speaking minority in Romania. He was Romanian champion in 1968 and 1969 in the lightweight (-60 kg), 1970, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1976 and 1977 in the light welterweight (-63.5 kg) and 1975 in the welterweight (-67 kg).
At the 1968 Olympic Games , Cuțov occupied after victories over Erik Nikkinen, Finland (5: 0), Mongi Lahdhili, Morocco (5: 0), and Stoyan Pilichev, Bulgaria (4: 1), and a semi-final defeat by Ronald Harris , USA ( 5: 0), third place in the lightweight.
In 1969 Cuțov won in addition to the European championships , the Balkan championships and the following year the police championships of the Eastern Bloc in the light welterweight division. At the European Championships in 1971 he won the silver medal, losing in the final against Ulrich Beyer , GDR (5-0). In the same year he repeated his victory in the police championships of the Eastern Bloc.
After another victory at the Balkan Championships in 1972 Cuțov took part in the Olympic Games for the second time . This time, however, he was eliminated in the preliminary round against Srisook Buntoe, Thailand (TKO 3rd). In 1973 he again won the Eastern Bloc police championships and the following year for the third and final time the Balkan championships.
1976 Cuțov earned his third participation in the Olympic Games , but retired in the quarterfinals against the later bronze medalist Vladimir Kolew , Bulgaria (5-0). In 1977 he ended his career with one last medal: he won the bronze medal at the European Championships . His younger brother Simion (1952-1993) was also a boxer and Olympian.
