Marc Victor Marie "Mark" Demesmaeker (born September 12, 1958 in Halle , Belgium) is a Belgian television presenter and politician of the Nieuw-Vlaamse Alliantie (N-VA).

Life

Demesmaeker first worked as a teacher before he went to television. In 1991 he started working as a reporter for the public travel magazine Vlaanderen Vakantieland . Then he went to the commercial broadcaster VTM , where he presented the garden program Groene Vingers and acted as a newscaster. On the niche channel Vitaya then he hosted the show Tuindromen met Mark .

Demesmaeker was elected to the Flemish Parliament in 2004 via the N-VA and CD&V cartel lists . In 2006 he was also elected to the city council of Halle, to which he was a member from 1982 to 1989, as well as being elected one of the lay judges. In the 2012 elections he ran as the top candidate of the N-VA, which became the strongest party but did not move into government, so that he lost his position as aldermen. On February 1, 2013 he moved from the Flemish to the European Parliament after Frieda Brepoels, who was elected Mayor of Bilzen , became vacant.

Demesmaeker was as EU leaders in May 2015 Russia with a travel ban occupied.
