Calliergon cordifolium (German Herzblättriges Nice Moss ) is a moss - kind from the family Calliergonaceae .

features

With its medium-sized plants, the species forms yellowish green to green, soft, mostly loose lawns. The prostrate to upright stems are often about 10 (up to 20) centimeters long and branched irregularly. The loosely set, upright to spreading, stem leaves resting on the stem tip are hollow, elongated heart-shaped, their tips rounded hood-shaped. The simple leaf vein ends in the leaf tip. The branch leaves are smaller, narrower and more pointed.

The cells in the middle of the leaf are linear, worm-shaped, narrower at the edges, and gradually wider and shorter at the base. Leaf-wing cells are square to rectangular, hyaline, hardly to moderately inflated and are usually not sharply defined from the cells above and usually extend to the rib.

Calliergon cordifolium is autocratic (antheridia and archegonia on different branches on the same plant). The red seta is up to 8 centimeters long. The spore capsule is broadly elliptical and high back, emptied, constricted under the mouth. The capsule lid is short conical with a pointed wart. Spores are 10 to 16 micrometers in size and finely papilous.

Location requirements

The moss grows in light to shady, wet to very wet, mesotropic to eutrophic, base-rich, lime-free to lime-poor locations, especially in fens, bog ponds, silting areas, ditches, and peat cuttings or swamp forests. Frequent accompanying mosses include Calliergonella cuspidata , Drepanocladus aduncus , Plagiothecium ruthei or Sphagnum squarrosum .

distribution

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the species is moderately frequent to rare or absent, depending on suitable locations; here it occurs from the plains to middle mountain ranges. In addition, it is spread over the northern hemisphere; there are other occurrences in New Zealand.
