The Calnègia is a 7 km long right tributary of the Bavona in the canton of Ticino . It drains the high valley Val Calnègia , a side valley of the Bavona valley , and drains an area of ​​24.4 square kilometers.

The river rises below the Pizzo Cazzòla ( 2756  m above sea level ) about above the northernmost of the two mountain lakes called Laghi di Formazzöö . The Calnègia flows mainly in a north-easterly direction and a little later takes on its longest tributary, the Ri della Crosa, which rises in the Laghi della Cròsa . It now flows through the uninhabited and wooded Val Calnègia and falls at Foroglio in the municipality of Cevio down a 110 m high steep step into the Bavona valley before flowing into the Bavona from the right.
