Calycobathra calligoni is a butterfly fromthe Chrysopeleiidae family .

features

The moths have a wingspan of 10 to 12 millimeters. The head is ocher. Thorax and tegulae are pale ocher and mottled ocher. The forewings are pale ocher colored and mottled ocher gray , especially in the basal region and along the Costa veins . The wing drawing includes two narrow dark gray lines. The first is at 1/3 of the fore wing length in the anal fold, the second at 3/5 of the fore wing length in the middle of the wing. The fringed scales are pale ocher gray. The hind wings shine light gray and have pale ocher-gray fringed scales. The abdomen has a brownish-gray shine dorsally , the segments are banded whitish behind. The last two segments are white, the anal tuft is yellowish white.

In the males, the uncus is short and strong and sickle-shaped. The blades are slender and curved inwards distally . There is a notch on the base. The caudal part has parallel walls and rows of coarse bristles on the inside. The apex is rounded. Three long and curved dorsal bristles arise near the base and reach up to half the length of the valve. The bristles on the outside are short and hair-like. The lobes of the vinculum are triangular, the caudal part is rounded and especially toothed on the edges. The aedeagus is slightly curved and laterally flattened. It widens to a rounded apex with a semicircular notch at the top. There are two or three small subapical teeth on the ventral margin.

In females, the slot-shaped bulge of the seventh is sternite front sclerotized and U-shaped. The fold is wide and has an almost straight edge. The ostium is surrounded by an almost square reinforcement, which is connected to the more or less trapezoidal genital plate. There are two pairs of lateral protrusions with a net-like structure. The inner protrusion curves in front of the slit-shaped bulge, the outer one is almost straight, widens apically and is bent inwards like a hook. The ductus bursae runs in many turns and is provided with a sclerotized stiffening band. The antrum is broadly cup-shaped, the rear half is densely covered with hairs on the inside. The corpus bursae is oval. There are two small horn-shaped signs with a circular base.

Similar species

Calycobathra calligoni differs from Calycobathra acarpa and Calycobathra variapenella by the lighter and mostly monochrome, pale ocher-colored fore wings and the two distinct dark gray strokes.

distribution

Calycobathra calligoni occurs in the extreme southeast of the European part of Russia (eastern Caucasus , southern Urals ). Further distribution areas are the east of the Transcaucasus and Central Asia . The species is common in desert and semi-desert habitats and occurs together with Ascalenia viviparella .

biology

The caterpillars develop in the shoots and fruits of Calligonum junceum , Calligonum eriopodum , Calligonum microcarpum and Calligonum leucoladum . They live from late spring to the first half of summer. The species forms two generations per year. The moths can be found throughout the year. They overwinter in the burrows of various rodents .
