Calycobathra is a genus of butterflies from the family of cosmopterigidae (Cosmopterigidae).

features

The head of the butterfly is smoothly scaled. The antennae are 3/4 as long as the forewings and scaly at the base. The base of the antennae ( scapus ) is very broad and especially flattened at the base. The labial palps are cylindrical and curved upwards. The forewings are broadly lanceolate and have a dark ocher or brownish basic color. The wing drawing is very indistinct. The hind wings are lanceolate and half as wide as the forewings.

In the males the uncus is short, strong and hook-shaped. The tegumen is short and ribbon-shaped. The blades are long and slender. They are finger-shaped and have bristles distally on the inner surface. A few long bristles are placed ventrally. The Vinculum is large and has two wide lobes inside. The aedeagus is very short and slender and often provided with teeth or thorns.

In females, the apophyses are about the same length. On the posterior edge of the sixth sternite is a large fold that covers the ostium . The seventh sternite is short and has a broad slit-shaped bulge. The ostium is located on a protruding ring at the front edge of the seventh sternite between large and often complex side shields with reticulated structures and thorns. The ductus bursae runs in a few turns and is provided with an elongated sclerotized band. The antrum is often sclerotized and densely covered with hairs on the inside. The corpus bursae is rounded and occasionally provided with comb-shaped structures. There are two small thorn- or horn-shaped signs.

distribution

The representatives of the genus are distributed in North Africa , the Near and Middle East , the Caucasus , Central Asia and eastward to Mongolia .

biology

The biology of only a few species is known. The caterpillars live in the shoots and fruits of Calligonum species.

Systematics

The type species of the genus is Calycobathra acarpa Meyrick , 1891. In Europe the genus is represented with two species, Calycobathra calligoni and Calycobathra variapenella .
