Calystegia subacaulis is a kind ofplantfrom the genus of the bindweed ( Calystegia ) from the family of the bindweed family (Convolvulaceae). The species is endemic to California .

description

Calystegia subacaulis is a more or less hairy, perennial plant that forms a rhizome or a woody caudex as a perennial organ. The stems are prostrate or ascending and are 2 to 20 cm long. The leaf blade has a length of 3 to 4 cm, is more or less triangular-spear-shaped and occasionally covered with small, backward-directed lobes. The leaves are pointed or rounded towards the front, the base is conically tapered.

The inflorescence stalks are up to 3.3 cm long and do not protrude beyond the surrounding leaves. The prophylls are 7 to 17 mm long, 4 to 9 mm wide, broadly ovate to lanceolate or elongated. They sit directly below the chalice and enclose it. The sepals are 10 to 13 mm long. The crown is white or cream-colored, often tinged purple on the central veins of the petals. It is 33 to 62 mm long.

The number of chromosomes for Calystegia subacaulis subsp. subacaulis 2n = 22.

distribution

The species is endemic to California in the southern North Coast Ranges, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the middle Outer South Coast Ranges. It grows there in dry, open shrub or woodland.

Systematics

One can distinguish between two subspecies:

  • Calystegia subacaulis subsp. episcopalis Brummitt : It occurs in California only in San Luis Obispo County .
  • Calystegia subacaulis subsp. subacaulis : It occurs in central and western California.
