Camacupa is a city in the Angolan province of Bié with about 19,000 inhabitants.
history
During the Portuguese colonial era , the small town ( Vila ) was named after the Portuguese general, engineer and colonial administrator Joaquim José Machado (1847–1925) Vila General Machado . After Angola's independence in 1975, the Portuguese place name was replaced by the current place name.

Camacupa is the seat of a district of the same name ( Município ) in the province of Bié . The district has over 160,000 inhabitants on an area of 9469 km². From now on, the 2014 census should provide reliable population data.
The Camacupa district consists of five municipalities (Comunas):
- Camacupa
- Cuanza (also Kwanza)
- Ringoma
- Santo António da Muinha (also Muinha)
- Umpulo
