Cuemba (sometimes Coemba ) is a small town in Angola , in southwest Africa . The local waterfalls are well known .

After the giant sable antelope ( Portuguese : Palanca Negra Gigante) was long considered expelled, in 2013 a couple living here could be spotted again in the district. The success is also attributed to the education of the population and the increased efforts of the authorities to protect these Angolan animals.

history

Under Portuguese colonial administration , the place was called Neves Ferreira , after the Portuguese military and colonial administrator João António Brissac, the Neves Ferreira (1846-1902). After Angola's independence in 1975, the city was given its current name.

administration

Cuemba is the seat of a district of the same name ( Município ) in the province of Bié . The district has 70,956 inhabitants (2014 estimate) on an area of 11,601 km².

Four municipalities (Comunas) make up the Cuemba district:

education

There are 55 schools in Cuemba County with 811 teachers teaching 21,137 students from first to twelfth grade. There is only one secondary school in the district (as of 2013) . There are demands for the establishment of a pedagogical school in order to improve the education and training level of teachers in the district. The establishment of the school is now officially approved, and plans have been announced.

The district administration maintains a school lunch program . It obtains most of the food served from local producers. So far, however, the program has only been able to include 2,810 students at 7 schools (as of July 2013) .

traffic

Cuemba is a stop on the Benguela Railway . The Cuemba station was renewed as part of the renovation program that began in 2008.

After a Chinese construction consortium renewed the railway systems in the region by 2012/2013, it has since also built the road connections for Cuemba u. a. after Camacupa new. So far they have been in very bad condition and not yet paved.

Cuemba has a small airport, Aeroporto Coemba , which is used for domestic flights.
