Cambridge is a city in the US state of Minnesota . It is the administrative seat of Isanti County . With around 7,000 inhabitants (2006 estimate) and a simply structured infrastructure, Cambridge is a typical American small town.

Cambridge is located in the north of the metropolitan area of ​​the Twin Cities , just under 70 kilometers from the major cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul . According to the United States Census Bureau , the area of ​​the city is 16.2 square kilometers, of which 0.2 square kilometers is water.

history

Cambridge was founded in 1866. The city got its name from settlers from New England . The numerous Swedish immigrants who settled in the area also had an influence on further development. From 1890 to 1900 the population grew from 258 to 737 inhabitants. At the beginning of the 20th century, various industrial companies such as a potato starch factory and a flour mill settled in Cambridge. By the end of the century, the population had grown to over 5,000. By 2015, growth to just under 12,000 is forecast.
