Cambridge is a city in the US state of Minnesota . It is the administrative seat of Isanti County . With around 7,000 inhabitants (2006 estimate) and a simply structured infrastructure, Cambridge is a typical American small town.
geography
Cambridge is located in the north of the metropolitan area of the Twin Cities , just under 70 kilometers from the major cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul . According to the United States Census Bureau , the area of the city is 16.2 square kilometers, of which 0.2 square kilometers is water.
history
Cambridge was founded in 1866. The city got its name from settlers from New England . The numerous Swedish immigrants who settled in the area also had an influence on further development. From 1890 to 1900 the population grew from 258 to 737 inhabitants. At the beginning of the 20th century, various industrial companies such as a potato starch factory and a flour mill settled in Cambridge. By the end of the century, the population had grown to over 5,000. By 2015, growth to just under 12,000 is forecast.

Demographics
According to the 2000 census, Cambridge had 5,520 people in 2,237 households and 1,353 families. Racially, the population is made up of 97 percent white population and smaller minorities.
Children under the age of 18 live in 32.1% of the 2237 households, married couples in 44.5%, female singles in 12.8% and 39.5% are not family households. 35.1% of all households consist exclusively of a single person and 19.5% have single people over 65 years of age. The average household size is 2.29 people, that of families 2.95.
In relation to the entire city, the population is made up of 24.9% residents under 18 years of age, 8.7% between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.6% between 25 and 44 years of age, 17.8% between 45 and 64 years of age 23.1% over 65 years. The median is 38 years. About 56.6% of the population is female.
The median income of a household is USD 35,313 and that of a family is USD 53,381. The per capita income is $ 20,697. About 10.5% of the population and 5.8% of families live below the poverty line.

Minnesota State Route 65 runs through Cambridge in a north-south direction and State Route 95 in an east-west direction . Interstate 35 runs about 18 kilometers east .
