The Cameron Lake is a 477-hectare lake in the Canadian province of British Columbia .
It is located about 10 miles east of Port Alberni and 9 miles west of Qualicum Beach , relatively in the center of Vancouver Island, and can be reached via Highway 4 . The lake is located in the Regional District of Nanaimo in the Beaufort Range of the Vancouver Island Ranges .

While Highway 4 is on the south bank of the lake, there is a branch line of the Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway on the north bank . Furthermore, in the area north of Mount Horne and Mount Wesley and in the south of Mount Arrowsmith . Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park is located on the southern and southwestern shores of the lake , followed by MacMillan Provincial Park on the southeastern shore area .
The lake was founded in 1860 by the Engl. Naval Officer George Henry Richards named after David Cameron , the first Chief Justice of the Crown Colony of Vancouver Island .

Due to the two provincial parks located on the lake and the highway that passes by, the lake is well visited by day tourists.
Furthermore, the lake is very popular with anglers due to its high fish density. In addition to rainbow trout and cutthroat trout , brown trout and sockeye salmon can also be found in the lake .
In September and October 2009 the lake caused considerable excitement among cryptozoologists due to unidentified animal sightings .
