Camino de Santiago is a Swiss documentary film by Jonas Frei and Manuel Schweizer from 2015. It was released in theaters on March 26, 2015 by MovieBiz Films , in Germany on June 4, 2015 by Farbfilm Verleih and in Austria on July 10th 2015 by ThimFilm.

content

The film follows hikers on the traditional Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela through France and Spain and asks them about their motivation. Religious pilgrims have now become the exception; instead, many want to find each other, seek solitude or contact with nice people. One innkeeper reports of hikers who, drunk, disturb the other guests in the evening, another complains of tourists who take a package tour with full board but only cover a short distance on foot.

criticism

The film service criticized that the “diversity of motivations to hike the Camino de Santiago” would be neglected in the film, as would “a critical analysis of this fad”. Instead, “far more than 50 protagonists have their say along the way, whose brief statements remain insignificant snapshots”, while the “cut, picturesque landscape shots lack any inspiration”.
