Campanula cretica is a species of bellflower ( Campanula ) in the bellflower family(Campanulaceae).

features

Campanula cretica is a perennial stem hemicryptophyte that reaches heights of 10 to 45 centimeters. The leaves are 35 to 140 millimeters in size, heart- or kidney-shaped and notched. The one-sided grape has few flowers. The flowers are pendulous. At flowering time, the anthers have grown together to form a tube that surrounds the stylus. The crown is about 30 millimeters tall and blue or white.

The flowering period extends from July to September.

Occurrence

Campanula cretica is endemic to Crete in the Chania regional unit . The species grows there in crevices, walls and embankments at altitudes of 50 to 1700 meters.

Systematics

The plant was described by the Swiss botanist Alphonse Pyrame de Candolle in 1830 under the taxon Symphyandra cretica . In 1839, the German botanist David Nathaniel Friedrich Dietrich assigned the taxon Campanula cretica, which is valid today, to the species and thus classified it in the genus of bluebells.
