Campo Baixo ( Creole : Kanpu Baxu ) is a small village in the southwest of the island of Brava , Cape Verde Islands with 169 inhabitants (status: 2010 census).
The place can be reached via a good, asphalt road from the next larger village, the pilgrimage site of Nossa Senhora do Monte , with the Aluguer buses that run at irregular intervals and are typical of Cape Verde . A good road also leads to the neighboring town of Tantum in the south of the island. Almost all of the residents of Campo Baixo make a living from agriculture (especially maize), and some cattle (cows) are also farmed. The village consists mainly of one-story houses with a hipped roof .
On the eastern edge of Campo Baixo - as in other villages on Brava - a large concrete area on a slope is noticeable. It is used to collect rainwater, as the lack of water is also a major problem in Campo Baixo. In the village there is a school and a few small shops for daily needs, but no church.
Not far from the village in the southwest on a rock on the road to Palhal is a small chapel in the shape of a ship with the name Santa Maria and two masts. Similar chapels and monuments can also be seen in other places in Cape Verde, for example in the island capital of Vila Nova Sintra, 15 kilometers away .
