The Cape Cod Bay (also Cape Cod Bay ) is a Watt shee UCHT the Atlantic Ocean south of the Massachusetts Bay .

It forms part of the coast of the US state of Massachusetts . It is bounded to the south and east by Cape Cod and to the west by Plymouth County (Massachusetts) . In the north, Cape Cod Bay merges into Massachusetts Bay and the open ocean. Cape Cod Bay is the southernmost stretch of the Gulf of Maine . Sometimes it is not seen as an independent sea bay, but is added to the Massachusetts Bay.

The current in the bay generally moves counterclockwise, under the influence of Massachusetts Bay, from Boston south over Plymouth , then east towards Provincetown on the very tip of Cape Cod. This hook-shaped peninsula is made of glacial sands and rises 105 km into the Atlantic Ocean. Their width varies between 1.6 and 32 km.

The current post-ice age began around 11,000 years ago. At the beginning of this period, Cape Cod Bay was likely a large freshwater lake with an outflow on Cape Cod. It probably fed the Bass River and Orleans Harbor . Since 1914 , the Cape Cod Bay is by the Cape Cod Canal at the Buzzards Bay connected. This separated Cape Cod from mainland Massachusetts.
