history

The Capitán Miranda was commissioned by the Uruguayan Navy in 1930 and built at a Spanish shipyard in Cádiz . It is named after Captain Francisco Prudencio Miranda (1868–1925), a geographer and naval officer. Until 1976 she was used as a hydrographic research ship. Then she was supposed to be retired, but was converted to a three-masted schooner . On October 20, 1978 she was put into service as a training ship. Since then she has participated in numerous tall ship regattas. In its history, the Capitan Miranda has also headed for German ports.
