Cardopatium corymbosum is a plant from the genus Cardopatium in the family of Compositae (Asteraceae).
features
Cardopatium corymbosum is a perennial, strongly thorny stem hemicryptophyte that reaches heights of growth of 8 to 25 centimeters. The stem is upright and branches out upwards. The numerous heads have a diameter of up to 10 millimeters, are almost seated and consist of 7 to 10 flowers . They are arranged in an umbrella-shaped head stand. The crown is light blue and 10 millimeters long.
The flowering period extends from June to August.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 36.
Occurrence
Cardopatium corymbosum occurs in the northeastern Mediterranean . The distribution area ranges from Italy and Sicily to Greece, Macedonia, Crete, the Aegean islands, European and Asian Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon and Israel. The species grows on pastures, fallow land, ruderal areas and rocky and sandy coasts. In Crete it can be found at altitudes from 0 to 350 meters.
