Carduus argentatus is a plant from the genus carduus ( Carduus ) in the family of Compositae (Asteraceae).

Vegetative characteristics
Carduus argentatus is an annual herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 20 to 60, rarely up to 100 centimeters. The stem is winged very narrowly. The wings are curved to lobed and have rounded lobes, at the tip of which there is a thorn up to 2 millimeters long.
Generative characteristics
The cup-shaped inflorescences are individually located on an wingless and often elongated inflorescence stem . The outer and middle bracts are more or less suddenly narrowed towards the top and end in a linear-awl, distinct appendage without a thickened edge. The corolla is purple.
The flowering period extends from March to June.

Occurrence
Carduus argentatus occurs in the eastern Mediterranean from Greece , North Macedonia , the Aegean Islands, Turkey , Syria , Lebanon , Jordan , Israel and Egypt . Carduus argentatus grows in ravines and rocky phrygana . In Crete it can be found at altitudes of up to 1400 meters.
