Carel Jozeph Grips , also Charles Joseph Grips (born November 22, 1825 in Grave , † November 18, 1920 in Vught ) was a Dutch painter, draftsman and lithographer.

Carel Jozeph Grips was born to Johannes Hubertus Grips and Gertruijda Cruijsen. Grips went to Antwerp in 1837 to study at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts . Then he became a student of Jan Hendrik van Grootvelt .

He married Hermina Maria Johanna Jacoba Gerendung in 1867. The future painters Ernest (1872–1970) and Frits Grips (1869–1961) were born from this marriage . Grips himself gave lessons to his sons and Antoon van Welie (1866–1956). He lived alternately in his hometown of Grave and in Jette near Brussels until he settled in Vught in 1881. He painted and lithographed genre pictures, especially interiors, in the style of painters of the 17th century such as Pieter de Hooch . His works were also known in Germany and Great Britain.

Grips died shortly before his 95th birthday.
