Caren Marie Alexius Kemner (born April 16, 1965 in Quincy , Illinois ) is a former American volleyball player and today's coach. With the national team , she took part in the Olympic Games three times.
Career
Kemner grew up in Illinois and played volleyball at Quincy Notre Dame High School from 1979 to 1983 . From 1983 to 1985 she was active at the University of Arizona . Since 1985 she played in the senior national team , with which she finished tenth at the 1986 World Cup in Czechoslovakia and third at the Goodwill Games. At her first Olympic Games in Seoul , she only reached seventh place. Things went better for Kemner in 1990 at the World Cup in China (third place), in 1991 at the World Cup (fourth place) and at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona (bronze). She also took part in the NORCECA championship four times (1985, 1987, 1991 and 1993) , each time finishing second behind Cuba . In the 1992/93 season, the outside attacker played in the Italian Serie A1 at Olimpia Teodora Ravenna . Here she became club world champion and was in the final of the Champions League . The following season Kemner was active in the Brazilian Super League at Leites Nestlé . With the national team, she was sixth in the World Cup in Brazil in 1994 , won the World Grand Prix in 1995 and finished seventh at the Olympic Games in Atlanta .
After finishing her national team career, Kemner was active in Japan in 1996/97 with the Orange Attackers in Kobe . The following season she returned to Brazil to Leites Nestlé, where she won the South American Club Championship. Kemner also played sporadically at national beach volleyball tournaments. a. at the side of Karolyn Kirby .
Kemner has been named "Most Valuable Player" ( MVP ) several times in her career . In 2013 she was inducted into the " Volleyball Hall of Fame ".
After her active career, Kemner became a volleyball coach, first at Quincy Notre Dame High School and from 2011 to 2018 with the Wildcats at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri .
