Carl-A. Fechner

Carl-A. Fechner (* 1953 in Gütersloh ) is a German peace and environmental activist, journalist , director and producer of documentaries and author. He is the founder of fechnerMEDIA GmbH and board member of Protect the Planet - Society for Ecological Awakening.

Life

Fechner's father was a Wehrmacht soldier, his mother a nurse. Fechner crossed the Sahara twice in his VW bus. After graduating from high school, he went to the armed forces. Parallel to his stationing in Immendingen, he protested peacefully - although still in active service - against the NATO double resolution and the stationing of nuclear medium-range missiles in Germany. He took part in the sit-ins in the Mutlanger Heide and was involved in the peace movement in the Darmstadt Signal . In the same year, 1983, his first daughter was born. After a forced transfer to Ulm, Fechner left the Bundeswehr in 1987.

During his time in the Bundeswehr, Fechner studied media education in Munich and thus came into contact with film and television. For ARD he worked as a war reporter in crisis areas.

In 1989 he founded the production company fechnerMEDIA GmbH. Since then, he and his team have been filming the resistance to energy from nuclear fission and coal combustion. More than 200 TV reports, documentaries and reports were made, which are broadcast worldwide. The recordings have taken his team to over 70 countries so far. Fechner attaches great importance to sustainability aspects during the production of his films.

In addition, fechnerMEDIA produces image films for German and European companies for ecological responsibility - including Lichtblick , Weberhaus and Daimler . fechnerMEDIA has been awarded the German Business Film Prize four times .

Fechner's cinema documentaries Die 4. Revolution (2010) with Hermann Scheer , Power to Change - Die Energierebellion (2016) and Climate Warriors (2018) report on the global struggle for a clean, safe and just future through decentralized, renewable energies. You have received several awards. With Power to Change - the energy revolution is possible , a book was published in 2018 that continues the film and interweaves the personal life story of Carl Fechner. Fridays , a documentary about the worldwide Fridays for Future movement that Fechner made together with director Johanna Jaurich, is due to hit cinemas in 2020.

Fechner's films are partly financed by crowdfunding. Small and medium-sized companies , associations, clubs, independent organizations and private individuals enable the filming with small sums.

Fechner is a founding member and board member of the non-profit company Protect the Planet. Society connects politics, business, civil society and “fights for more political-ecological determination and responsibility as well as against the lobby for fossil and nuclear energy.” He gives seminars at schools and universities on filmmaking and sustainable living.

Fechner lives with his wife and two children in a plus energy house in Engen.
